Leading Change:
Your Journey into ESG Proficiency

Businesses are grappling with a shortage of skills to effectively address the challenges in the evolving landscape of ESG. Acquiring the necessary skills for this leadership role, driven by the urgency of regulatory compliance, stakeholder pressure and investor demands, has become a priority.

Drawing on working experiences across NGOs, mom-and-pop businesses, and publicly listed companies in a wide range of industries, Empower Element created “ESG Fundamentals: Mastering ESG Practices, Reporting, Compliance and GHG Accounting” to bridge this urgent skills gap. This course is built not only on real-world ESG practice, but also on feedback from two successful program cohorts and the latest shifts in global sustainability regulations — ensuring the training stays current, relevant, and directly applicable.

In this program, we focus on equipping you with the knowledge, skills, and resourcefulness needed to work with ESG in practice. Our goal is to help you effectively support your organization in meeting ESG requirements while advancing social, environmental, and economic sustainability.

Here’s what you’ll learn

  • The history of ESG, how it evolved and where it stands today
  • How to navigate, differentiate and when to choose between ESG standards, frameworks, guidelines, principles, and rating agencies
  • Understanding the rational, motivations and politics behind corporate ESG disclosures
  • Greenhouse Gas data points: how to collect and calculate scope 1, 2 & 3
  • Insights into the ESG reporting process, its structure and challenges
  • Apply CSRD-aligned Double Materiality Analysis to evaluate both financial and impact materiality
  • Learn the latest CSRD updates and how to implement the steps required for full compliance

Turning learning into action: Each training day is designed as a combination of hands-on exercises, practical industry insights into working with ESG and interactive discussions between the trainer and the participants. The highlight of the training is our in-person visit to a local company so you can practice on-site data collection skills, essential for your next ESG report.

Here’s what our alumni say:

I cannot recommend this training enough. It not only expanded my knowledge but also empowered me to become a catalyst for positive change in my workplace and community. If you’re looking to become a sustainability leader armed with the latest frameworks and data skills, this course is an absolute must.
I recently had the privilege of participating in an exceptional Sustainability Training Course that truly exceeded my expectations. This comprehensive program delved deep into the intricate world of sustainability frameworks and data management, equipping me with invaluable knowledge and skills for a sustainable future.
Chi was great and taught a lot of good tricks and overall knowledge and the slides are a gold mine for future reference!
What truly set this course apart was its meticulous focus on data setup and management. We were taught how to collect, analyze, and interpret sustainability data effectively, enabling us to drive meaningful change within our organizations. The hands-on exercises and real-world case studies were particularly enlightening, giving us practical experience in working with sustainability datasets.
I would recommend it, definitely! ESG is quite an abstract concept and courses on the topic are usually very expensive. The course had a reasonable price and provided a solid basis for understanding What ESG is and the most important aspects related to it – like what a report should include and insight into the most used frameworks used.
When applying to jobs in the private sector in sustainability I think it helps to know about ESG and how companies work with sustainability in practice and what type of data e.g. that is included and measured. It has made me more interested in pursuing a career within sustainability reporting, as I now know what it actually is about.

Meet your trainer:

Hi, I’m Chi Nguyen!

In 2022, a master’s student from Malmö University asked if I could share what it’s really like to work in sustainability. From small startups to multinational organisations, I’ve seen the real challenges of ESG work and realised how wide the gap is between classroom knowledge and what the job actually demands.

That first cohort showed me just how unprepared many aspiring practitioners feel when theory meets reality.

This year’s program is sharper. It’s built on my industry experience, refined by two successful cohorts, and updated with the latest regulatory shifts shaping sustainability today. The world isn’t getting simpler — and neither is ESG.

My promise is simple: I’ll be an open book. You’ll get the tools, skills, and practical insights I wish someone had given me earlier — so you can build a meaningful career and make real change happen.

Is this the right training for you?

ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance, and it is crucial for businesses to address these aspects for sustainability and responsible practices. Our training provides insights into why ESG matters and how you can go from feeling overwhelmed to embracing ESG in your (future) workplace.

  • Publicly available knowledge vs. real-world applicationDetailed instructions on GHG accounting, CBAM, Double Materiality Analysis, CSRD, and similar topics are all publicly available on official websites such as the GHG Protocol, SBTi, and the European Commission. It’s not rocket sciencebut these documents are lengthy, technical, and often disconnected from real business realities. My offline training focuses on understanding the implications of these requirements. Participants learn how these frameworks play out across industries, how companies actually comply (or struggle), and what challenges arise in practice. We also explore the politics behind these regulations and why sector-wide consistency in KPIs and requirements is still lacking.
  • A certificate is one thingbeing able to speak confidently in an interview is another: Online ESG programs make it relatively easy to obtain a certificate, but translating that knowledge into practical insightthe kind interviewers look foris a different story. Interviewers don’t just want to hear the steps of Double Materiality Analysis or a list of Scope 1–3 categories. They want to know whether candidates understand the dilemmas companies face, when exceptions apply, and what nuance looks like in real situations.
  • Learning what not to do is just as important as learning what to do. In theory, identifying climate and social risks sounds straightforwardat least according to the CSRD guidelines. In reality, it’s messy, political, and shaped by numerous internal and external stakeholders. Large educational institutions rarely touch on the political dimension, yet understanding it is essential for understanding why some approaches work and others don’t -> back to future job interview’s expectation. You’ll score betr when you can give an example of a company’s dilemma.
  • Turning learning into action: Reading official guidance documents can make you feel like you understand everything, but when it comes to applying that knowledge within a real company, most people don’t know where to start. In my training, roughly half the time is dedicated to hands-on application. Participants get to practice, encounter challenges, and learn through doingwhich dramatically improves retention and confidence.

Participants gain practical skills in data collection, analysis, and reporting. They also receive a certificate of participation and access to valuable resources and a network of professionals new to working with ESG.

Absolutely. Our training caters to individuals at all levels of ESG experience, ensuring a solid foundation for newcomers.

The training is a 3-day in-person program from 9-17.00. The next upcoming training is scheduled for February 16th, 17th, 18th, 2026 in Malmö, Sweden.

Yes, participants will receive a certificate of participation that can be added to their LinkedIn profile and job applications.

There are no strict prerequisites. However, participants should have an interest in working with sustainability and ESG reporting.

While our training does not offer specific accreditations, it provides valuable skills and knowledge aligned with industry standards and practices.

Each training day is a combination of practical insights and industry knowledge from our experienced trainer with interactive, hands-on exercises. One of the highlights is a visit to a local company for practical data collection experience.

Yes, you will have the chance to connect with like-minded participants from various backgrounds and industries.
